Welcome to seventh grade Language Arts!  Seventh grade is a year of highly visible progress in reading, writing, and language arts. By the end of seventh grade, students should: Develop complex writing skills Constructively critique their own and other’s writing Apply punctuation, grammar and syntax skills Recognize and apply grade appropriate vocabulary Read with fluency, with focus on comprehension

Language Arts Expectations:

• Bring a composition notebook and pencil to class
• Complete classwork each day or take it home for homework
• Participate in class discussions and presentations
• Write important daily tasks and assignments in planner
• Show your best attitude and effort; follow classroom rules/procedures at all times

Language Arts Novels:

• The House on Mango Street by Sandra Cisneros
• The Giver by Lois Lowry
• The Pearl by John Steinbeck

Language Arts Assignments:

• Multiple writing assignments per quarter or unit
• Mini-lessons on grammar and writing style

Projects, presentations, group assignments, and homework throughout the year
